A lot of people are talking about UBI and I get that. Cash directly to people would be good. I think that means the end of a large proportion of local small business if that’s all we do, though. The reason I haven’t suggested UBI is because it would normally create a lot of demand for local small business, but in this case we’re asking everyone to stay in doors (and now we’ve forced those business to close). All the demand will go to Amazon instead. I’m worried about what local economies look like once this is all over. I’m very concerned most commercial streets will have boarded up stores. No small business has the cash to make it through if they need to keep paying rent. All that said, again, cash to people is good, and they’ve started that in the US.
